At the moment we can only offer trainings at Geneva LSGG and Zurich LSZH. At all other Swiss airports we don't have enough traffic to guarantee a progress in your abilities as ATC. This may change in the future however, we please you do not rely on this option. Furthermore only Geneva and Zurich feature all possible ATC facilities. So, when you apply for the career, module or a session please let us always know whether you want to have it at GVA or ZRH. Our competent trainer team offers trainings in the three main languages of Switzerland which are French, German and Italian in addition to English.
By applying for the ATC career or any of the below listed module you automatically agree with the rules listed below. This ensures a smooth process for both parties. Please remember that the trainer staff brings up it's free time to support you:
- You appear on time for your training session
- If not able to participate in a fixed session, you cancel it as soon as possible by writing to your trainer
- If there is any homework/preparation to be done, you do it properly
- You don't connect at any higher facility than the one your trainer allows you to
If you violate any of the above mentioned rules your trainer will issue an admonishment, asking you once again to respect the rules you accepted when applying for the training. A second violation will be avenged immediately and without any further warning with an exclusion of any training programme offered for the next 6 months. After this period you can reapply for a training. But, should you violate again one of the established regulations you will be excluded from training staff support for life time.
From zero to hero (ATC career)
Are you completely new to IVAO and want to start your virtual ATC career? Then this course is the right one for you. One of our trainers will take you through your very first ATC session until you reached your Area Centre Controller (ACC) rating. Together you will go through the procedures of each facility and the according theoretical material. It's our goal that at the end of each module you are well prepared for your practical exam and that you pass at the first attempt. The career consists of all the below listed modules.
Aerodrome Controller (ADC) module
You need at least 10 hours of online time at the Delivery position until you can move to Ground / Apron Control. This minimum is required to promote automatically to ATC Trainee (AS2) rating. Because without AS2 rating you can't login on GND stations. However, if your trainer sees that you need more practice he may require you to collect some more experience at DEL before moving to GND.
- Fill out the ATIS
- Check flight plans
- Label aircraft (flight strip)
- Issue IFR clearance
- Decode METAR/TAF
- SID chart interpretation
- Y and Z flight plan
- TRL/TA and QNH/QFE
Ground / Apron (GND)
You need at least 15 hours of online time at the Ground position until you can move to Tower Control. This minimum is required to promote to Advanced ATC Trainee (AS3) rating, after passing your first theoretical online exam. Because without AS3 rating you can't login on TWR stations. However, if your trainer sees that you need more practice he may require you to collect some more experience at GND before moving to TWR.
- Autorise start-up and push back clearance
- Issue taxi clearance
- Give precedence to a taxiing aircraft
- VFR handling
- Ground chart interpretation
- CAT II/III operations
You need at least 25 hours of online time at the Tower position until you free to apply for the ADC theoretical exam. This minimum is required to promote to Advanced ATC Trainee (AS3) rating, after passing your first theoretical online exam. Because without AS3 rating you can't login on TWR stations. However, if your trainer sees that you need more practice he may require you to collect some more experience at GND before moving to TWR.

- Missed approach (MAP)

Approach Controller (APC) module
You need at least 10 hours of online time at the Departure position until you can move to Approach Control. This minimum is required to ensure that you are fully capable of executing DEP duties, so you can focus on APP tasks. However, if your trainer sees that you need more practice he may require you to collect some more experience at DEP before moving to APP.
- SSR identification
- Short cuts and coordination
- Decode METAR/TAF

- Approach procedures
- STAR/Approach chart interpretation
- MCA, MRVA & SRA
- Missed Approach (MAP)
- Procedural control
Area Centre Controller (ACC) module
Flight Service Station (FSS)
As VFR flights are rarely on IVAO it makes no sense to connect as FSS for many hours. Your trainer will therefor go through the material only by theory and simulate some situation by voice only.
- Information broadcasting
- Flight surveillance
- Information recording
- Surveillance service
- Information service
Radar (CTR) small sectors (LSAG/LSAZ)
Before you can move to the big sector you need to have 30 hours of online time for each small sector. You must be able to control the small sectors without feeling any stress, also if there is no lower facility online. However, if your trainer sees that you need more practice he may require you to collect some more experience at LSAG/LSAZ before moving to LSAS.
Radar (CTR) big sector (LSAS)
Before you can apply for your ACC theoretical you need at least another 40 hours of online time as LSAS_CTR to reach the total required amount of 200 hours.
If you are an experienced controller and just need to practice a specific procedure like the VFR handling, or you need to know more about any theoretical issue then you should go for an individual session. In such a case the biggest advantage of the individual training is that it's far more shorter than the modules. And maybe your lack of knowledge can be cleared by a simple conversation without logging in onto the network.
